The best testimony of the Foundation's essential and unduplicated service is from a patient who used the service for her 30 radiation treatments. Sofia lives in Del Rio and learned in July that she had breast cancer. Her daughter, Maria, lives in California and has been with her mother to help with recovery and finding treatment options.

"I had surgery in September in San Antonio and needed to have radiation therapy, but it was impossible for me to have my treatments in San Antonio,” said Rodriguez. “My daughter researched to find treatment closer to Del Rio, and when she found out I could come to Uvalde for treatment, it was helpful. She then found out about the van service, and it was such a relief because I do not drive. My husband is 86, and it would be too hard for him to drive me every day to my treatment. My daughter rode with me in the van for my first two treatments, and now she has the peace of mind to return to California and her job because she knows that I am in good hands.
